The Artistic Gymnastics British Championships concluded last week and the Welsh Gymnasts left their mark on the event. Here’s a detailed look at their performances across the championships.

In the Men’s Senior competition, the Welsh athletes showcased their skills with precision and finesse. Joe Cemlyn-Jones, representing the City of Birmingham, claimed 9th place in Saturday’s all-around competition. His standout performances on the high bar, rings and parallel bars earned him a spot in Sunday’s finals, where he placed 4th, 5th and 7th respectively. Jacob Edwards, also from the City of Birmingham Gymnastics Club, closely followed his teammate placing 13th in the all-around competition. Edwards also qualified through to the floor final where he placed 9th.

In the Men’s Under 18’s competition, the Welsh Gymnasts continued to shine. Alexander Niscoveanu, competing for South Essex Gymnastics Club, displayed composed performances, earning him a 3rd place finish overall and his talent on the pommel horse and rings was enough to earn him a place in Sunday’s apparatus finals. He finished 6th on rings and successfully earned his second bronze medal of the championships on the pommel horse. Elliott Vernon of Leeds Gymnastics Club added to the Welsh gymnast’s success. Vernon finished 7th in the all-around competition and his strong performances on floor, pommel and rings qualified him through to the apparatus finals. His clean performances in the pommel and rings finals saw him win a silver medal on each of the apparatus.

Moving down an age group, James Llewellyn from Hawth Gymnastics Club showed maturity and skill to place a respectable 19th in the Under 16’s all-around final. Meanwhile, Sammy Cotter of City of Manchester Institute of Gymnastics wowed the audience on the parallel bars, earning him 6th place on the apparatus.

Among the young Welsh talents in the Men’s Under 14 category, Ewan Leask, competing for Leeds Gymnastics Club, showed strong routines on high bar and rings where he finished 8th and 5th. In the same category, Iolo Parry from Fusion Gymnastics Wales impressed on the rings finishing just behind Leask in 10th.

In the Men’s disability master’s competition Kieron Innes, also from Fusion Gymnastics Wales, showcased incredible routines earning him gold on pommel and parallel bars and silver on the vault. Kieron also qualified to compete in the mainstream competition and performed strong routines on rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar.

Switching gears to the Women’s Artistic competition, the Welsh athletes captivated the audience with their grace and precision. Ruby Evans from Clwb Cymru Caerdydd, claimed a silver medal in the Women’s senior all-around competition. Her teammate, Mali Morgan, placed 6th all-around and showcased proficiency on beam and floor qualifying her through to the apparatus finals. Morgan went on to place 6th in the beam final and earned herself a silver medal in the floor final. Additionally, Emily Roper from Pipers Vale Gymnastics Club impressed with strong routines across all 4 apparatus which qualified her into every apparatus final. Roper finished 3rd on both vault and floor in Sunday’s finals.

There were more impressive results for the Welsh Women in the Junior competition. Ellie Lewis, from Clwb Cymru Caerdydd, won the silver medal in the all-around competition. Continuing Clwb Cymru’s success, Jemima Taylor finished 7th in the all-around final, Lexi Holmes finished 10th just ahead of Ffion Burgum who was 11th. There was also lots of success in the apparatus finals for the Welsh Juniors. On bars, Ffion Burgum finished won the silver medal, Ellie Lewis finished just behind her in 3rd. On beam Ashleigh Rose Evans finished a commendable 5th, Ellie Lewis was 6th and Jemima Taylor finished 7th. Finally on floor, Jemima Taylor won the silver medal with Ellie Lewis just behind her in 4th.

Chloe Newton from Shrewsbury Gymnastics Academy competed in the Women’s Aspire category and finished a respectable 10th in the all-around competition and an impressive 2nd place on beam.

Finally, in the Women’s disability master’s competition, Ruby Allen, representing Neath Afan Gymnastics Club, competed beautiful routines and finished the championships with 3 silver medals on vault, bars and floor.

The Welsh gymnasts really impressed in every category, leaving a lasting impression on the British Championships. Congratulations to all involved; Welsh Gymnastics has a bright future ahead.
