Criminal record checks: One part of safe recruitment

Welsh Gymnastics are committed to using criminal record checks (Disclosure Barring Service, or DBS, checks) as a key part of safe recruitment.

Criminal record checks (which used to be called CRB checks, now DBS), are only one part of safe recruitment and other practices to keep children and adults at risk safe from abuse of any kind.

Who needs a DBS check?

Anyone who regularly works with children or vulnerable adults (paid or unpaid) needs a DBS certificate.
It's a quick and simple process:

  • Take a look at this chart which explains more about who in your club must have a DBS check. [Link opens in new window)
  • There should be a designated person or people at your club (often the welfare officer and/or head coach) responsible for verifying applications
  • If you need a DBS check, the designated person from your club can send you a link for your online application, and can also verify your ID
  • If you have any problems with this process, please contact Welsh Gymnastics
