Fresh from her Olympic Rio experience, Maisie Methuen has returned to training in Wales with a fervour to make selection for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The 15-year-old travelled to Brazil earlier this month with coach Tracey Skirton and fellow junior artistic gymnast Alice Kinsella, as part of the BOA Ambition Programme.
Methuen had first-hand experience of how Olympic athletes live and train, visiting the world-class facilities of Team GB’s preparation camp in Belo Horizonte before flying down to Rio to visit the Olympic Village, British School and British House. To cap off her trip, Maisie was then given a special ticket to witness the Team GB gymnasts compete in the Rio Olympic Arena, including the nail-biting women's team final.
Speaking to BBC Radio Wales on her return, Maisie claimed the expereince was "just amazing" and had "inspired her to train harder and aim higher".
Pipped as one of 20 athletes to watch out for in Tokyo 2020, by sports journalist Alyson Rudd of The Times, Maisie will turn senior in 2017, ready to prove herself amongst the best of British women's artistic talent.
First though, Maisie will represent Team Wales in the annual School Games in September, this year taking place in Loughborough University from 2-4th September, before she flys to Namibia to compete in the Junior Commonwealth Gymnastics Championships in October.
