World, British and Welsh disability gymnastic champion Martin Vick has passed away suddenly at the age of 42.

A member of Penarth Gymnastics Club for many years, Martin was a member of the Welsh Gymnastics Disability Squad for many years and won three gold and four silver medals becoming the World Champion at the Special Olympics.

A down syndrome gymnast Martin carried on his love for gymnastics to achieve a full Level 1 coaching qualification and was coaching every Tuesday at Penarth Gymnastics Club.

Martin was also an active member of the Hijinx Theatre and worked with the company for over ten years, appearing in many productions such as Phantoms of the Operetta.

Those who were part of the adult display team in the late 1980s and early 90s may remember Martin for his brilliant pantomime productions involving the whole team the many Gymnastrada trips abroad.

Welsh Gymnastics would like to express its sincere condolences to Martin’s family, friends and to Penarth Gymnastics Club. Martin was a great ambassador for our sport.
