Welsh Gymnastics coaches have been topping up their knowledge and skills after attending the annual British Gymnastics symposium this month.

The event, which is specifically created for coaches at the start of a gymnasts journey, offers a range of technical and non-technical cpd sessions which gives club officials the opportunity to receive feedback from the NGB and Discipline senior staff.

Welsh Gymnastics sent two representatives to the symposium on behalf of the Welsh Tumbling Community, and newly qualified tutor, Jamie Evans, was able to feed back everything he learned to a number of coaches and gymnasts from different clubs this week.

The coaches all received a comprehensive run down of the changes to the Code of Points and the implication this could have to clubs, and more importantly, gymnast’s routines.

The workshop also included an inclusive and detailed practical session with an emphasis on round off and flick shapes.  With the changes to the code of points shaping is going to form a huge part of the competition structure and judging deductions moving forward.

If you are interested in Tumbling as a new discipline, please get in touch with Maria on maria.gaynor@welshgymnastics.org and she can organise a similar “in house” workshop for your club.
