Last weekend (2nd – 3rd June) saw the final qualifying competition for Welsh tumblers to gain a place at the British Tumbling Championships 2018, held in Birmingham Arena later this year.
The British Spring Series 2 for tumbling is an ideal opportunity for those tumblers who have already gained qualifying scores to try out new moves and improve on those scores.
Unfortunately, due to sheer numbers, even if tumblers gain the qualification score they need, they then also have to be placed in the top 16 to be offered a place in the British Championships.
Welsh tumblers were out in force this year and all showed huge promise, with gymnasts of all ages competing from Aberystwyth, Carmarthenshire School of Gymnastics (CSOG) and Dimax.
Lots if improvements were made and lots of new skills achieved. Special mentions go out to Jenson Ball from CSOG and Michael O’Donnabbain from Aberystwyth, who both improved dramatically on their previously qualifying scores, with Jenson placing 5th and Michael 4th, both just losing out on medals by less than 0.5 of a point.
Our Welsh tumblers are all now waiting for confirmation from British Gymnastics to see if they have been offered a place at British Tumbling Championships. Well done everyone and good luck on Championship selection.
