This July saw 400 gymnasts competing at the Welsh Novice Agility Championships held at Sport Wales, Sophia Gardens, on what turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year so far.
The event, which was held on the 22nd July, saw 19 clubs from all over Wales bringing along gymnasts to take part in the grassroots tumbling competition.
As with all Welsh Gymnastics competitions, the Novice Agility was fully inclusive, with gymnasts with impairments of varying degrees taking part and performing their routines alongside the rest of the competitors - Pembrokeshire Special School, Bedwas and Neath Flyers all took part and all gymnasts carried out their routines beautifully.
This year, the coaches were getting involved with all sorts of different competitions, from the usual handstand to the more unusual “floss” dance off (won by Coach Trudi from City of Newport Gymnastics Academy) and the plank competition (won by Coach Sian from Allstars).

There were lots of very happy gymnasts who were all fully immersed in the fun of the competition, with heaps of encouragement for their coaches and team mates.
A special mention goes out to our fantastic judges led by James Thomas from RSD, with Abbie Protheroe and Josh Beard from Cardiff Central Youth Club running the very busy tracks and keeping the competition moving quickly. We'd also like to thank our brilliant volunteers, without whom these competitions could not possibly take place!
The judges and volunteers are now all registered with Welsh Gymnastics' GymVol Volunteering scheme, which means that they can begin earning incentives for hard work - for further details on the scheme please get in touch with email@example.com.
A huge well done to everyone that took part in the Novice Agility Championships, and keep an eye on our website and our social media platforms for further opportunities to compete in the next tumble competition.
