A huge congratulations to Neath Afan Gymnastics Club and Valleys Gymnastics Academy on achieving the Insport Gold Standard award for inclusion.

The Insport pathway helps clubs to create an accessible and inclusive environment for people with disabilities through a variety of different methods, and receiving this award is the culmination of months of hard work from both clubs who are striving to make gymnastics a sport for all.

This is a fantastic achievement for Neath Afan, who began their Insport journey in 2014 when the club received a Ribbon award. As the club has continued to grow and their inclusive sessions have been established, Neath Afan then went on to achieve Bronze and Silver awards. With all classes being inclusive, the club also offers private lessons and lends support and guidance to parents and carers to establish which provisions would be suitable for each individual.

Neath Afan Gymnastics Club provides a whole pathway, from participation to competition for each of its members. The club regularly enters the inclusive “Gymnastics for All” competitions as well as Disability NDP competitions both regionally and nationally.

We also couldn't be happier for Valleys Gymnastics Academy, whose Insport journey started in 2015 with the club also receiving their Ribbon award. They have proactively earned each new award and implemented a strong and successful inclusive culture throughout all classes at the club, as well as having a disability competitive squad.

The squad at VGA consists of gymnasts who compete at the Welsh Gymnastics “Gymnastics for All” competitions as well as gymnasts who have represented Great Britain at the Special Olympics. Two of these gymnasts are a member of VGA’s British Gymnastics Leadership Academy and are working hard in assisting coaches in leading recreational gymnastics sessions - gaining experience and qualifications whilst being mentored by qualified coaches.

Ann Bevan CEO of Welsh Gymnastics commented “Welsh Gymnastics are absolutely delighted that Valley Gymnastics Academy and Neath Afan have achieved Insport Gold.  Across Wales, only 11 clubs have achieved the Gold InSport standard so this is testimony to the hard work the clubs and their coaches are undertaking within their communities, and is testament to the approach that the clubs have taken to ensure their programmes are accessible to all.”

Both Neath Afan Gymnastics Club and Valleys Gymnastics Academy are a credit to the Welsh Gymnastics community, and we are so proud of their commitment to ensuring gymnastics is inclusive for all. Congratulations to everyone involved!
