More than 80 children from 4 leisure centres across Cardiff to compete in the first leisure centre competition as part of our new GFA pathway
Hosted by Pentwyn Leisure Centre, in partnership with GLL, children from the Cardiff area of Pentwyn, Llanishen, Eastern and Fairwater competed in an apparatus competition on floor, vault and trampette.
All participants (and staff) had a wonderful day and are already excited for the 2020 events. Kathryn Cope, Welsh Gymnastics Leisure Scheme Lead described the day as a "triumphant success":
"The gymnastics competition was a triumphant success with fun had by children, parents and staff alike. It was wonderful to see so many children enjoying gymnastics and performing their routines and for most, it was for their first time. I am excited to see what exciting gymnastic opportunities 2020 will bring through our thriving partnership."
Annie Hillman, Sport and Participation Manager for GLL thanked Welsh Gymnastics for the great support throughout the implementation of the scheme. She extended her thanks to Kathryn for organising and supporting the day.
"Our coaches and customers thoroughly enjoyed the competition and we look forward to working in partnership in the future."
This new scheme was developed as part of the Gymnastics For All pathway mean that associated centres will be able to offer an Introduction to Gymnastics Programme - Jump into Gymnastics and British Gymnastics Proficiency Schemes.
Since the partnership began, more than 10 new Gymnastics Instructors have been trained and 3 judges have attended a workshop.
The Leisure Centre Scheme Competition handbook will officially launch in January 2020, so keep an eye out on our website!
