Welsh Gymnastics is delighted to launch Love to Move in Wales, a dementia-friendly gymnastics exercise programme developed by the British Gymnastics Foundation.

There are approximately 42,000* people living with dementia in Wales. The Love to Move programme is a seated movement programme designed to increase the mobility of the elderly and those living with dementia.

Its roots are taken from gymnastics and uses specially designed coordination and asymmetrical movement patterns, which are thought to have the effect of increasing a person’s cognitive reserve.

We are inviting community coaches, coaches and club officials to attend a two-day course in Cardiff on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th January 2020 to enable them to deliver the Love to Move programme to those in their local area.

Once they have attended the course, accredited individuals may want to deliver the programme in their own gym, local nursing home or even organise their own group at their local town hall.

Delivery of the programme will be unique to the individual and their local area. In delivering the Love to Move programme, clubs will help to contribute to their wider community as well as helping to make a significant impact on the quality of life for those living with dementia.

The Love to Move course takes place at Sport Wales National Centre, Cardiff, CF11 9SW on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th January from 9am to 5pm. Those interested in attending the course should fill out the course enrolment form by Friday 20th December 2019.

If you are interested in the programme and would like any further information please contact maria.gaynor@welshgymnastics.org, Pathway Development Officer or the team at British Gymnastics theteam@britishgymnasticsfoundation.org
