We managed to catch Emily Thomas in the gym to ask about all things awards

What does it mean to you to be nominated for this award?
Being nominated for this award is something I wouldn’t have expected to happen when I began my gymnastics journey at 4 years old. I am super grateful for this opportunity and I’m very thankful to everyone who has helped me to get where I am today. Also, good luck to the other gymnasts nominated too!

Do you have any advice to fellow gymnasts who aspire to win this award in the future?
My advice would be to always be willing to go the extra mile and push through the tough days. My favourite quote that I often tell myself is "hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard."

If you win, how will you celebrate?
I’d like to say I’d celebrate at my local pub with my family and friends with a few drinks, but I don’t think my coach would approve given all the training I have lined up for the coming year. Instead, I’ll celebrate by diving back into the gym to ensure this year was just as good as the previous one.

Important questions - do you have your outfit sorted?
Unfortunately, I don’t have an outfit sorted yet - which is very unlike me.

Good luck, Emily and all of the other talented gymnasts up for nomination.

The Welsh Gymnastics awards evening will take place on Saturday 18th January at 6:30pm. Be sure to keep up-to-date with all the results from the evening on our Twitter page!
