Welsh Gymnastics would like to kindly remind members, in accordance with Welsh Government guidelines, not to travel to areas currently under local lockdown to take part in any gymnastics activity.

We must also stress that clubs within local lockdown areas will therefore NOT be able to allow gymnasts from outside of their lockdown area into their facility, until guidelines change.

Currently, only those gymnasts identified by Sport Wales as elite are allowed to travel to and from lockdown areas. Travelling to and from a lockdown area for amateur sport activities is not permissible.

In summary, whilst an allowance exists for people to travel across boundaries to access childcare, where there is no reasonable alternative provision, this does not extend to allow travel to access sport and physical activity for children.

All sport and physical activity must be carried out within the home county, unless there are specific health care reasons why this cannot be done. Crossing a county boundary to attend classes or other provision in another county is not permitted, even if that is the normal or preferred site of attendance and participation.

The areas currently under local lockdown restrictions are: Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil, Newport, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Cardiff, Swansea, Llanelli, Neath Port Talbot, Torfaen and Vale of Glamorgan.

The Welsh Government have published FAQs for each lockdown area, including taking part in sport activity, which can be accessed here.
