Bangor Gymnastics Club’s Macaya Alsop created a little piece of history when she walked out this morning to compete in the Women’s Aspire competition at the 2023 Artistic British Championships in Liverpool.

In doing so, the 12-year-old became the first gymnast from the Bangor club to compete at these championships.

Macaya’s coach Ellie Hill said: “It was such a fantastic experience and, at such a young age to be the first from the club, we couldn’t be more proud.

“We look forward to many more following in Macaya’s footsteps.”

Macaya was competing here alongside fellow Welsh gymnast Lexi Holmes – who would go on to bag Women’s Aspire All-Around bronze.

The Clwb Cymru Caerdydd gymnast’s total score of 46.200 across her four pieces secured her a place on the podium, with Park Wrekin’s Helena Fink (48.750) grabbing gold. It comes almost two weeks on from the Welsh Open when both were also on the podium.
