About the Course
Welsh Gymnastics is dedicated to keeping all our members safe. As part of this commitment, everyone in an official role is required to hold a valid safeguarding certificate.
To make this more accessible, we are offering our Safeguarding and Protecting Children course, as well as the Time to Listen course, free of charge to all members. This support is designed to ease the financial pressure on clubs and help keep our sport safe for all.
This specific online classroom has been developed in partnership with the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) of the NSPCC and is tailored for young coaches aged 16–17.
What You’ll Learn
This course has been created by child welfare specialists and is delivered with the safety and needs of young coaches in mind. During the workshop, you will:
- Learn what safeguarding and child protection mean in a sports context
- Understand best practice in safeguarding as part of your coaching journey
- Discover how to recognise and report any concerns you may have
- Learn who you can report concerns to
- Explore how to safeguard your own welfare as a young coach
- Find out who you can talk to and get support from if you need help
Who Can Attend
This course is specifically for:
- Young leaders
- Assistant coaches
Participants must be 16 or 17 years old to attend this course.
Important Information
Course Confirmation
- Your place is not confirmed until you complete your entry and receive a confirmation email.
- Once confirmed, you are expected to attend and participate fully.
Non-Attendance Charge
Once your place on the Safeguarding and Protecting Children (16–17) course is confirmed, failure to attend will result in a £45 course charge.
Cancellation & Notification Policy
- If Welsh Gymnastics receives cancellation notice more than 3 working days before the course start date, no charges will apply.
- If cancellation is made less than 3 working days before the course start date, a £45 charge will be applied.
Extenuating Circumstances
In cases of extenuating circumstances, please email coaching@welshgymnastics.org, non-attendance will be considered on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of Welsh Gymnastics.
