Abigail Roper

CWG 2026 Longlist Gymnast

I first started gymnastics when I was 4 years old at Pipers Vale Gymnastics Club. I have been doing gymnastics for 16 years and have been at my home club throughout my whole journey. I worked my way up through Regional and National grades and a finally qualified to the British Championships in 2021. In 2022 I decided to embrace my Welsh heritage and began competing for Wales which opened a lot of exciting opportunities for me. I represented Wales in 2022 and 2023 Northern Europeans where we became team champions. I got selected for GB Squad in 2024 and competed at my first World Challenge Cup in Hungary. I have since competed at Koper World Challenge Cup and came 3rd on vault and floor. I hope to compete in the upcoming Commonwealth Games for Wales, and the start of this year is going to be the most important for that.

My favourite piece is floor as I like to challenge myself to do big tumbles. My favourite skill is a geinger on bars.

I am studying Sport and Exercise Science at University, and I enjoy learning about the human body as I find it interesting and cool to learn about.

I sometimes work at the gym doing parties whenever I can and have the time! I also coach the little ones sometimes.

I feel privileged to be able to be on the Commonwealth Games longlist and even have a chance to compete at the Commonwealth Games this year! The Welsh and the British Championships are going to be important for me and hopefully all my hard work will pay off!
