Ellie Lewis

CWG 2026 Longlist Gymnast

I began my gymnastics journey at Pen y Bont Gymnastics Club, where I started in the regular fun classes. I moved quite quickly into the squad group at the age of five, then progressed into the regional squad, and finally to where I am now, training alongside the Welsh National coaches in Clwb Cymru for around eight years. I have been training for 11 years and have had a mixed journey so far.

The highs of my journey include successful Espoir and junior seasons, where I earned many Welsh and British Champion titles. This led to competing at the Junior European Championships with GB, where I qualified for the bars final, and also representing Team GB at the Youth Olympics, earning a bronze team medal and qualifying for the bars final. I have also experienced the lows through injury, which meant I did not have the start to my senior career that I had hoped for. However, with the right support, recovery, and rebuilding, I have been able to overcome these setbacks and get back on track. A positive from my first senior year was qualifying as a Senior Squad Reserve and placing 3rd on bars at the British Championships.

My favourite apparatus is bars and has been for a little while now, and my favourite skill is a shap.

I have finished school, so before continuing my education I am taking a break and am currently working alongside focusing on my training. This has been great, as my work is based with a nutrition company, so there is a lot to learn while I am there.

To be nominated to the longlist is a huge honour and feels incredible. Having trained and been part of the Welsh Gymnastics Centralised programme for so long, the Games have always been a main goal of mine. Watching previous teammates progress to the Games and seeing the pride that comes with it shows what a privilege it is to be part of that journey.
