Evie Flage-Donovan

CWG 2026 Longlist Gymnast

My gymnastics journey started in a local gymnastics club, Newport Girls. As soon as I started gymnastics at the age of 4, I immediately fell in love with it. I very quickly progressed and my personal coach at the time liaised with my parents and decided at the age of 8 it was best for me to move to a higher-level club to train more competitively at an elite level in Cardiff Central Youth Club. I trained at CCYC where I progressed and completed most of my Compulsory Levels. However, before my Compulsory Level 1, I started training at Sports Wales National Centre with the Welsh squad as this was the best decision for me and my gymnastics at the time. And that’s where I have been training ever since! My gymnastics journey has had a lot of ups and downs with injuries and setbacks, but so many more ups to look back on over the 7 years I have trained at WIS. The memories and friends I have made through gymnastics are ones I will look back on and cherish forever.

My proudest achievements are competing for Great Britain at the Junior Europeans and making a bar final, competing for Team GB at the European Youth Olympics, becoming Junior British Beam Champion, competing for Wales at the Northern Europeans where I came second on beam. I am most proud of being named to the Commonwealth team longlist, as for me it was a representation of all my hard work, determination and resilience to overcome a two-year long injury. The last 2 years have been very tough with hurting my foot and needing ligament reconstruction surgery. However, I’m so happy and excited to be back doing what I love and competing all 4 pieces again in the upcoming year!

My favourite piece has always been bars as I have always felt very confident training and competing it however now, I’m loving beam which is different for me! My favourite element will always be my full out dismount off bars which it has been for years, as I’m super confident competing it and I just find it so fun to do!

My favourite subject in school was Health and Social Care as I was always so interested about all the different topics that you could learn about within the subject. I also went to college to study this as I wanted to be a midwife at the time. I now work in the Welsh Gymnastics office as a Performance and Athlete Officer, working in the morning and train in the afternoon.

I feel super grateful and proud to be on the longlist. After the rollercoaster of emotions with injuries and setbacks, I’m super happy to be given this opportunity. I’m so excited to be on this journey along side such a great team of girls.
