Ffion Burgum

CWG 2026 Longlist Gymnast

I started gymnastics when I was 3 in my local leisure centre in Bridgend. At the age of 5 my recreational coach suggested I move to Fusion in Llantrisant, from there I got invited to train at the Welsh Academy in Sport Wales at the age of 8 where I have trained ever since. So, I have been doing gymnastics for 13 years.

My gymnastics journey in recent years has been a bit of a roller coaster. I was a member of the GBR squad from 2018 until 2025; but unfortunately, at the beginning of 2025 I picked up an injury that prevented me from competing. However, I have been lucky enough to represent Wales in Portugal, South Africa and Australia. I was selected to represent Great Britain as part of the EYOF team as reserve and to compete in the ‘5 way international’ in France in 2023. I competed for Great Britain in Czechia in 2024 winning a team bronze medal and making the beam final. As an Aspire gymnast I secured a Bronze all around medal at the British Championships, as a Junior gymnast at the British Championships I became Junior Floor Champion in 2023 and also won All Around Silver. In the British Championships in 2024 I won the silver medal on the bars. I really enjoy competing at the Welsh championships and have won several medals in the championships over the years. In 2023 I was the Junior Welsh Floor and Vault Champion. I love representing my country and I can’t wait to be back out competing again!

My favourite apparatus are bars because I like the variety of skills you can compete and I enjoy the time in the air on bars. My favourite skill is a backwards triple twist on floor.

My favourite subject in school is PE, and I am doing PE as one of my A Levels

It’s a great feeling to be recognised as part of the Longlist and amazing to have a chance to compete at the Commonwealth Games for Wales.
