The Welsh Women’s Artistic gymnastics team enjoyed a fantastic weekend at the Healthy Living Competition, hosted at Basingstoke Gymnastics Club on 6th and 7th September. Competing in the Junior category, the team of Aiyla Griffith, Chloe Newton, Lali Robakidze, Maggie Rees and Roxanne-Nnika Sochon produced a series of excellent routines to take first place in the team event.

Wales finished with a total of 143.500 points, putting them well clear of the other teams. The victory reflected not only the consistency of the gymnasts across all four apparatus but also the hard work and preparation that has gone into their training in recent months.

There were several standout moments across the weekend. On vault, Roxanne-Nnika Sochon showed her power, scoring the team’s highest average of 12.500. The uneven bars proved to be another highlight, with Maggie Rees and Roxanne-Nnika Sochon tying for top spot on 11.300 and Lali Robakidze close behind with 10.950, demonstrating the strength of the team in this apparatus. Lali Robakidze also impressed on beam with a confident and steady routine, while Chloe Newton added valuable points with her clean execution. The competition closed in style on floor, where Roxanne-Nnika Sochon delivered the best Welsh score of 12.550 and Aiyla Griffith added a lively 12.300 to round off the weekend.

The gold medal was a proud achievement for the squad, who came together to represent Wales with determination and spirit. For the gymnasts, it was not just about results but also about gaining valuable competition experience and building confidence for the future. Their performances highlighted both individual talent and a strong team spirit that carried them to the top of the podium.
