Welsh Gymnastics is delighted to celebrate Carima Heaven, who has been honoured with the Special Recognition Award 2024, in a heartwarming celebration held at the prestigious Brangwyn Hall in Swansea.

Carima, who has devoted over 30 years to coaching acro and dance, was nominated by members of the public—an overwhelming testament to the positive impact she has had on her gymnasts, dancers, and the wider community. The award recognises not just her remarkable longevity in the sport, but the passion, care, and tireless commitment she brings to every session, performance, and athlete she supports.

Winning the award was a deeply meaningful moment for Carima, who was both humbled and proud to be recognised in this way.

“It was so lovely to know this is what the public see me as, a coach and teacher in our local community,” Carima said. “Hard work pays off.”

Over the decades, Carima has helped countless young people build confidence, skill, and a lifelong love for movement. Her influence has stretched far beyond medals and routines; she has been a guiding force, a mentor, and a role model to generations of young performers.

Her win is a powerful reminder that the strength of Welsh gymnastics lies not only in the athletes we see on the competition floor, but in the dedicated coaches behind the scenes—those who give their time, energy, and heart to nurturing talent and building community.

Congratulations, Carima, and thank you for everything you have done and continue to do for Acro, Dance, and the wider gymnastics family in Wales.
