‘I gave it my all out there’ – Emil Barber proud after near medal miss in men’s floor final

“I gave it my all out there.”
Those were the words of Emil Barber after only narrowly missing out on the medal places for Team Wales in the men’s floor final, finishing 4th.
The Swansea gymnast produced yet another impressive display on the floor, with this routine earning him a score of 13.800 – up 0.150 from his 13.650 score in qualification.
But his outstanding efforts were just unable to force him into the medal places, finishing just behind Englishman and Tokyo Olympian Giarnni Regini-Moran, who scored 13.966 to take bronze.
On his performance, Emil said: “I gave it my all out there and am gutted to have just missed out by such a small margin. The competition was really intense and everyone out there is very talented so it was great to be out there competing for Wales.
“I improved my score from the qualification, which I am really pleased about and gives me something to build on.”
England’s Jake Jarman added floor gold to his all-around title with a winning score of 14.666 with Canadian Felix Dolci in the silver medal position with 14.166.
Wales’ Joe Cemlyn-Jones, who withdrew from the individual all-around final due to shoulder and hand injuries, did take his place in the floor final and competed bravely, scoring 11.366 for eighth place.
Birmingham’s Joe Fraser added the pommel horse to his Team gold in his home city, edging defending champion Rhys McClenaghan from Northern Ireland for gold, while Courtney Tulloch retained the rings title he won at Gold Coast 2018.
Georgia Godwin added the women’s vault title to her individual all-around gold and Team silver medals, while also took silver behind England’s Georgia-Mae Fenton on the uneven bars.
Meanwhile for Emil, he is back tomorrow for the men’s vault final and, ahead of that, he said: “Tomorrow is another great opportunity for me to try and get a medal and I am going to go out there and commit as much as I did today.”
Along with Emil on vault, Brinn Bevan will be gunning for a medal in the parallel bars final while, in the women’s competition, Poppy Stickler goes in the floor final while Jea Maracha and Sofia Micallef compete in the balance beam final.
