Welsh gymnasts Ruby Evans and Evie Flage-Donovan have been named in the British women’s artistic junior team for the 2022 Artistic European Championships in Munich, Germany next month.
The Clwb Cymru Caerdydd duo, who are both 15, are part of a five-strong team also including Abigail Martin from South Devon, Grace Davies from Robin Hood and Tiegan Trafford from Abingdon.
Ruby is the reigning back-to-back British junior champion after retaining her title at the Artistic British Championships in Liverpool at the end of March, where she also grabbed gold on uneven bars.
Meanwhile Evie’s selection is reward for an excellent 2022 so far, which includes a stunning gold medal won on beam in the junior competition at the British Championships – and resulted in her earning her first British squad call-up.
Last month Evie competed in her first GB international, a three-way U15 contest in Haguenau, France. She was third in the all-around while also helped Britain to second place in the team competition behind France.
The Artistic European Championships take place from 11-21 August with Great Britain competing in the junior and senior competitions.
WAG Head National Coach Tracey Skirton-Davies said: “Olivia and I are immensely proud of Ruby and Evie and it has been a testament to their hard work
“Covid was tough on this age group, as they had a long time out of the gym, but they persevered through restricted training to come back really strong.
“They are a close bunch of girls in the GB junior squad – and I know they will really pull together and enjoy the experience of their first major event.”
Congratulations to both gymnasts and to their coaches.
