Welsh women’s artistic gymnasts Ruby Evans and Evie Flage-Donovan both made an apparatus final after helping Great Britain’s junior team finish 4th at the 2022 European Championships in Munich.

The Clwb Cymru Caerdydd duo, who are both 15, along with teammates Abigail Martin (South Devon), Grace Davies (Robin Hood) and Tiegan Trafford (Abingdon), posted a combined score of 147.563 to finish just outside the medal places. Italy took the team title.

Ruby Evans (second in from the left) and Evie Flage-Donovan (centre) helped Britain’s junior women’s team finish 4th at the 2022 European Championships in Munich.

Double British junior all-around champion Ruby was 14th and Evie 16th in the individual all-around placings.

Those performances also helped Ruby (floor exercise) and Evie (uneven bars) qualify for an individual apparatus final.

Ruby, fresh from winning a silver medal on the vault for Team GB at the 2022 Summer European Youth Olympic Festival in Slovakia, produced a stylish routine to score 12.633 for an excellent fourth place.

Evie, meanwhile, also performed a clean routine to score 12.300 to finish 5th on uneven bars.

There were some fantastic results for the seniors, with the team of Alice Kinsella, Georgia-Mae Fenton, Ondine Achampong, Jennifer Gadirova and Jessica Gadirova securing a silver medal for Britain in the team event behind Italy.

Jessica retained her European floor title with Alice claiming silver in the individual all-around competition and Ondine taking silver on beam.

Congratulations to all of the gymnasts and coaches on some dazzling performances and outstanding results throughout the championships.
