In further response to the findings of The Whyte Review, which were published on June 16th, Welsh Gymnastics Chair Beverley Smith has made the following statement on behalf of the WG Board of Directors.
She said:
“The report has been very difficult and upsetting to read; we would like to thank everybody who contributed to the report and to those who have bravely come forward to speak up and share their experiences.
“Our position is absolutely clear: nothing is more important than the safeguarding and welfare of our gymnasts and abuse of any kind within the sport is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
“The Board have met since the report was published and we reiterate our commitment to take all the recommendations made in the report seriously.
“Work has already begun and, in the coming weeks, we will be working closely with specialist independent safeguarding advisor, Jan Pickles OBE, who is advising the Board on creating an action plan to deliver on them.
“We will be in a position to set out details of that action plan over the next few weeks.”
